Pharrell Williams is in the process of suing former Black Eyed Pea will.i.am. The reason? It all stems from an argument about the phrase "I Am". This all seems a bit childish, no?
Copies of the lawsuit reveal that will.i.am requested that Pharrell stop promoting his 'I Am Other' company by using the phrase "I AM", while Pharrell's defence attorneys claimed that will.i.am's copyright of his name is "relatively weak" and points out that Pharrell isn't using full stops between the letters - as will.i.am does.
Confused yet? We'll explain further: Will.i.am's lawyer has maintained that he "has done what any trademark owner must do to protect and maintain a trademark. We think their proposed trademark is too close to our register and common law trademarks. They disagree. We hope to work out a sensible compromise that will allow both parties to move forward without unnecessary acrimony."
All of those over three letters? C'mon lads.
