Reports in the Irish Times over the weekend suggest that we may have seen the end of the Oxegen festival, temporarily at least. Last week's news that The Stone Roses had been announced as playing the Phoenix Park on July 5th next, a Thursday, coincides with the start of T In The Park in Scotland, a festival which traditionally shares multiple acts with Oxegen.

The Stone Roses have been confirmed as the first headline act of T In The Park, raising questions as to why they wouldn't be performing at Oxegen, which should be taking place on July 6th to 8th.

Rumours were abound in the past few months that a smaller scale Oxegen-style festival could be taking place in the Phoenix Park to replace the larger scale operation in Punchestown. MCD, promoters of Oxegen, were quick to refute this. Many commentators are speculating that we will soon see an official announcement from MCD as to the future of its flagship festival.

More as this develops.
