More fuel has been added to the "One Direction are to split up" rumours after it has emerged that Dublin band Kodaline have been working on solo material for Harry Styles.

Styles has spoken in the past of his desire to release solo material at some point in his career but Directioners will likely be hoping that any upcoming record from him won't come at the expense of the world's biggest boyband.

Quoted by Digital Spy, spoke of the material they worked on with Styles and revealed that (at least) one of the songs was about unrequited love. We could have guessed, lads.

"There are hundreds of songs flying around", Kodaline frontman Steve Garrigan said. "It could be on his album, if he does something. But I don't know. Nothing is set in stone."

Garrigan went on to explain how the collaboration came to be, saying that it wasn't a formal arrangement organised by their respective management but a more organic coming together.

"We had a bit of free time and so we went to the studio, and wrote a song", Garrigan explained.

Rumours that One Direction are to split up have intensified this year, particularly after two members of the group were seen to apparently be smoking marijuana in Peru which raised concerns that the band might struggle to continue to appeal to their young demographic.

If and when the band eventually split, our money is on Harry Styles 'pulling a Robbie Williams' and having the most successful solo career of the five.
