Indeed, most pop stars have got the memo when it comes to performing the National Anthem of any country; keep it simple, don't try anything weird and stick to the script. Even Aretha Franklin learned this lesson the hard way.

However, one star who threw caution to the wind and decided to do her own version of the song was Fergie - and to say it didn't go down well is a bit of an understatement.

The Black Eyed Peas star performed The Star Spangled Banner before an NBA All-Stars game yesterday, and it's one of the most awful, tuneless things you're likely to have heard in quite some time. Even the players struggled to keep a straight face.
