Last night's BRIT Awards saw some unexpected people in attendance, most notably Andrew Ridgeley - George Michael's former Wham! bandmate - and David Bowie's son Duncan Jones.
Ridgeley, who rarely appears in public these days, was on hand to introduce Chris Martin's tribute to George Michael and gave a heartfelt speech about the late musician, alongside Wham! backing vocalists Pepsi and Shirlie.
Ridgeley said that he felt like 'the sky had fallen in' when he heard of Michael's death in December, recalling their childhood friendship as "two boys who shared a love of life-affirming music and a sense that we understood it" and describing him as "the greatest singer-songwriter of his generation, an icon of his era and my beloved friend."
He added: "He understood love, loss and grief and in his music, he helped to heal the wounds life left on us."
David Bowie's son Duncan Jones was also on hand to collect his late father's awards for Best British Solo Male and Best British Album, which was presented by Noel Gallagher.
Jones said: "I lost my dad last year, but I also became a dad. I was spending a lot of time, after getting over the shock, of trying to work out 'What would I want my son to know about his grandad?' And I think it would be what most of my dad's fans have taken over the last fifty years - that he's always been there supporting people who think they're a little bit weird, a little bit strange, a little bit different' before dedicating the award to 'all the kooks'.
