The Democratic National Convention continued into its second day yesterday, with more well-known faces and musicians lining up to support the party and its (now official) presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton.
Alicia Keys was the latest to entertain the crowds gathered at the convention yesterday, and she dedicated her performance of 'Superwoman' to the mothers of 'slain children'. The mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown and other people who have died at the hands of US police had all made speeches earlier in the night.
Keys said: "Women are the answer. We have the power to ensure this country gets on the right path. I dedicate this song to the Mothers of the Movement and all mothers who have lost their sons and their daughters to senseless violence. Until we deal with gun violence in this country, we can’t claim home of the brave.”
She also played 'In Common', taking a not-so-subtle potshot at Donald Trump's 'bigotry and fear'.
Although Clinton will not make a speech until tomorrow's closing day, she appeared on a video screen behind the stage as Keys played 'Girl on Fire'.
