Hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar did well at the Grammys last night, picking up five awards of the seven he was nominated for for his album 'To Pimp a Butterfly'.
However, it was his performance that had everyone talking, making Beyoncé not the only black artist to make a political statement with her performance in recent weeks.
The Compton native took the stage shackled in chains with other black men on a prison block-style set, segued to native African tribal dancers, and also referenced the death of Trayvon Martin as he performed his songs 'Alright' and 'The Blacker the Berry'. It ended with a map of Africa on screen with 'Compton' written over it.
The 28-year-old also won 'Best Rap Album' earlier in the night.
