Nobody mention Garthgate. Please, nobody mention Garthgate. We can't go through all that again.

Look, you'll remember what happened the year that music promoters Aiken wanted to hold more than three gigs at Ireland's biggest stadium. Let's just say that it didn't work out.

However, although all three of the dates agreed by the Residents' Association and Dublin City Council have been taken up (two by Taylor Swift in June and one by Michael Buble in July), reports suggest that there may be a fourth one on the cards before both.

TheJournal.ie reports that an application has been made by Aiken Promotions for a gig to take place in the stadium on Thursday, May 17th.

They cite a letter from stadium director Peter McKenna, which reads: "Croke Park has planning permission to host three special events per annum under its special events licence granted by Dublin City Council but event promoters can and have applied for additional special event licences in Croke Park so the stadium has hosted more than three special events in one calendar year."

A notice for the application is set to run in the Irish Independent and Herald newspapers tomorrow, with local residents receiving notice of the application today.

The bigger question is, who could it be? Stadium-ready acts touring around then include Ed Sheeran - but he's playing the Phoenix Park either side of that date and while it's pretty unlikely that his stage set-up could be transferred or duplicated for one night, at the end of the day it's just him and a guitar...

The Script have played Croke Park in the past and have a gap in their schedule in early-mid May, but they're already playing Dublin in February. Lady Gaga has bypassed Dublin on her current Joanne arena tour... could she be gearing up for a stadium run during the summer? Rumours abound of a tour of Fleetwood Mac's classic line-up in 2018, but with no announcement yet...

Looks like we'll just have to wait and see - providing permission is granted, of course.
