Despite the band's management insisting otherwise it looks as though The Strokes have begun work on their follow up to 2011's Angles. Reports circulated recently (and were picked up by publications such as NME) that work was underway on the band's fifth album at the world famous Electric Lady Studios in New York City, but these rumours were immediately squashed by the band's label.

However, guitarist Albert Hammond Junior's father was quoted by NME as saying that his son has told him that efforts on a new record are well underway. "Albert says the stuff they're doing is incredible", said Albert Hammond Senior. "They're doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says 'Dad, it's incredible'."

The Strokes were last in Ireland to play a very, very wet Oxegen festival in 2011.
