While rumours abounded of a Smashing Pumpkins 'classic' reunion line-up earlier this month, frontman Billy Corgan has now confirmed that the Chicago rock band are working on a new album.
Corgan posted a picture of himself, James Iha and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin in the studio earlier this month although it was not clear what they were working on. Now, he has revealed that new music is in the works - and Rick Rubin is producing it. Rubin previously worked with the band on 1998's 'Adore', although the song he produced didn't make the final cut.
Corgan has worked with the likes of Chamberlin on different projects over the years, and he had worked with the drummer and guitarist James Iha as recently as 2016.
Now, it seems that the trio are regrouping for this new project - although it's unclear whether the band's most recent guitarist Jeff Schroeder or original bassist D'arcy Wretzky will be involved in any way.
The last Smashing Pumpkins album was 2014's 'Monuments to an Elegy'.
