Ronan Keating's future as a recording artist is in jeopardy after it emerged in today's Daily Mail that his latest solo album Fires sold just 181 copies in its first week of release.
Keating has been aggressively promoting the album in recent weeks, stating that the record is a return to the pop roots which saw him score huge hits with the likes of 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' and 'Lovin' Each Day'.
However, the album's poor performance suggests that Keating's time as a viable pop commodity may be over. Keating is still capable of attracting fans to the live arena but the same fans who would buy tickets to see him live in concert seem to have little interest in hearing him perform new material.
"The album is back to proper pop again", Keating said in July. "I've been working with the guys behind 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' again. I've been spending my time getting this album just right and I'm excited about people hearing it."
It remains to be seen if the album's sales figures will affect his relationship with Polydor.
