The surviving members of Nirvana were joined on stage at Madison Square Garden last night by Sir Paul McCartney at a fundraising concert for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The group, three-quarters Nirvana and one quarter Beatles, played an original song called 'Cut Me Some Slack', which you can watch below. It was the first time that Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear had shared a stage together in almost 20 years.
Some had been speculating that McCartney would perform one of Kurt Cobain's songs, with songs like 'About A Girl', 'All Apologies' and 'Lithium' mooted, but that proved not to be the case.
Meanwhile, professional party-pooper Courtney Love has told US website TMZ that she was "not amused" by the collaboration. Love, who holds the rights to the Nirvana back catalogue, said "if John [Lennon] were alive it would be cool" and going on to criticise the notion that the performance was a Nirvana reunion, mentioning that Kurt was the heart and soul of the band.
Love and the rest of Nirvana - particularly Dave Grohl - have a famously strained relationship and have bickered over the years on subjects ranging from the rights to Nirvana's music to Love accusing Grohl of "hitting on" Love and Cobain's 19 year old daughter Frances Bean Cobain - which was denied by both parties.
