Down Memory Lane: Nirvana played Sir Henry's in Cork this day 22 years ago

Anyone who was lucky enough to be in attendance when Sonic Youth and Nirvana rolled into Cork in August of 1991 will surely be feeling a little old now, as today marks the 22nd anniversary of a show which only a lucky few (as well as the countless fibbers claim to have) attended. The gig took place in Sir Henry's, a venue which closed its doors for the final time in 2003, and was headlined by Sonic Youth but it was only a matter of weeks after this show that Nirvana snowballed after the success of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' and became one of the world's biggest bands, almost overnight.

Incidentally, the above picture was taken in Sir Henry's of a sleepy Kurt Cobain catching fortywinks before the show.

The setlist for Nirvana's show contained a handful of songs from the band's soon-to-be-released Nevermind, a point after which the band and - significantly - Kurt Cobain would never be the same again.
