It was only released in January, but seven months on, 'Despacito' has officially become the most-streamed song of all time.
The track, by Puerto Rican artists Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, got a major boost when Justin Bieber featured on a remix version of it released in April.
Even though Bieber admitted that he does not actually know the words of the song mid-concert recently, he has contributed to its success and it has been streamed across various platforms a whopping 4.6 billion times. This figures includes the various remixes that have been undertaken by the likes of Major Lazer.
In second place is Bieber's song 'Sorry' (also including its numerous remixes) at 4.38 billion streams and Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You' is in third at 4.07 billion.
Luis Fonsi, one of three writers of the track and no doubt a very rich man by now, said: "Streaming is a connector for audiences worldwide and it has helped my music reach every corner of the planet. It is truly an honour that ‘Despacito’ is now the most streamed song in history.”
