Daft Punk’s super-hyped fourth album Random Access Memories goes on sale today and it looks set to break Oasis’ record for the fastest selling album in the UK chart.
Oasis’ 1997 album Be Here Now sold 650,000 copies in its first week of sales but with the highest number of pre-sales for a dance album ever on Amazon, Paddy Power has given Random Access Memories 4/5 odds of beating the record. The LP has also been given 7/1 odds of becoming the best-selling album in UK chart history by 2015.
It's not surprising considering the amount of hype that surrounded the album (the initial announcement broke their website) and the album’s lead single Get Lucky (feat. Pharell Williams) will most likely go down as one of the most defining songs of 2013.
A spokesperson for Paddypower said: "They might not have a catchy moniker like the 'Beliebers', but fans don't come much more passionate and excitable than Daft Punk enthusiasts so we're expecting big things for the French DJs next week. We only hope that the success doesn’t go straight to their helmets."
