Camila Cabello may have left Fifth Harmony somewhat acrimoniously at the end of 2016, but it seems like it may have been the best decision she's ever made.
The Cuban-American star releases her debut solo album 'Camila' today, and it's already broken records in terms of the number of countries in which it's gone to number one on the iTunes chart.
While there have been tonnes of rumours and speculation about the real reason she left the girl group, she has revealed that it was because her solo endeavours - beginning with a duet with Shawn Mendes in 2015 - caused friction within the group.
She told The New York Times that she had been 'shut out' and her request to write lyrics for the band rebuffed. "I was just curious and I wanted to learn and I saw all these people around me making music, writing songs and being so free,” she said. “I just wanted to do that and it did not work.”
She added that she had been given an ultimatum after participating in writing sessions with Diplo, saying “It became clear that it was not possible to do solo stuff and be in the group at the same time. If anyone wants to explore their individuality, it’s not right for people to tell you no.”
