Amanda Brunker is playing Oxegen. Yes, that Amanda Brunker. Best known for her series of books with the word 'Champagne' in the title, her Sunday World column and that nervous twitch she has in her hands in those television commercials where she tries to flog couches, Brunker will open the Vodafone stage on Saturday afternoon at 2pm.
There was an open slot in the line-up when Jessie J was forced to withdraw from the festival due to a broken foot. Alice Gold was moved to replace her and that left a TBC slot in the Vodafone stage, which Brunker was only too happy to fill. According to her Twitter, she'll be performing a set comprised of "kicking dance tunes", mixed with the odd cover.
Not many people were aware of Brunker's musical ambitions and I must admit that I thought this was a hoax when I first heard of it yesterday. Nope, it's for real. That nightmare I had about Brendan O'Connor playing the main stage of Electric Picnic has yet to be realised however.
