Most of us, at some point, have been to gigs so loud that your ears are still ringing the next day.
Needless to say, that's not good for your hearing - but a new report suggests that drinking caffeine the following day could further slow the recovery of your ears after they're exposed to loud music.
A study conducted by McGill University Auditory Sciences Laboratory saw them expose three groups of guinea pigs to caffeine, 110-decibel 'pure tone' sound levels, or both.
They found that the group that were exposed to both caffeine and the loud sound level recovered their hearing a lot more slowly than those that were exposed to just the sound. In fact, the same group had significant trouble recovering their hearing in various ranges, and it got worse as the study progressed.
Most concerts generally range from 100dB to 120 dB.
The link between caffeine's potential effect on recovering your hearing has not been fully explored - but needless to say, if you're in dire need of a coffee after a heavy night at a gig, maybe swap it for juice from now on.
