There'll be no new Fleetwood Mac album without Stevie Nicks. That's according to Lindsey Buckingham, anyway. Having reformed in the last couple of years - they're even getting former singer Christine McVie back in on the act - and enjoying a lot of success with touring, Fleetwood Mac seem eager enough to begin recording again. At their O2 Dublin show in 2012, Buckingham hinted at possibly recording again. Now he's come right out and said it.
"The way we do things is always a political minefield," Buckingham explained to M Magazine. "If it's not Stevie, it's me; someone is always causing trouble. I know Warner Brothers is dying to get an album from us, even though we're not signed to them anymore. Stevie needs to come to the table with some material. In order to contemplate a new album, she has to want to do it."
Well if that doesn't the ball in Ms. Nicks' corner, I don't know what will. Her last solo album, In Your Dreams, did pretty well with critics and album sales so it's not as if she's running out of steam, creatively. Buckingham said that Nicks is "feeling a bit protective and territorial about the experience she had doing her solo project." Oooh-er. Is there another strop on the horizon?
Because honestly, Fleetwood Mac's best songs came out from the drama between Buckingham and Nicks.
