Ever since he wound up Crowded House in 1996, Neil Finn has struggled hard to re-capture the public's imagination. His second solo album certainly doesn't reach the heights of his old work but it's still a mature, dignified effort with an old-fashioned, lyrical feel to it. This time around some subtle beats and loops have been added to Finn's staple guitar sound, courtesy of his new collaborators Wendy and Lisa, former Prince cohorts. Finn's unassuming persona means that he'll never be a superstar but it would be a shame if this melodic, deceptively simple album failed to get the attention it deserves.
