If you're fed up with the anodyne pop in the charts, this blast of loud metal guitars from My Vitriol should serve as the perfect antidote. At their best this Anglo-Sri Lankan outfit have a fine appreciation of the potency of melodic punk, especially when allied with sweet vocals and passionate lyrics. Unfortunately they're also capable of sounding like an anonymous grunge band and Finelines is an occasionally brilliant but ultimately uneven album. Still, there's a strong sense of creative energy and youthful brightness about My Vitriol that hints at greater things for the future.
