Morrissey has claimed that he doesn't know a single person who would like to see a reunion of The Smiths.
Speaking to Billboard, Moz said: "I don't know a single person who wants a Smiths reunion! here aren't any bands I like to see again because your memory of them is how they were in their prime or at their best or at their most desperate, and you look to them to be someone that they no longer are."
While this latest news will likely quash any remaining hopes of Morrissey and Johnny Marr sharing a stage again, it was curious that Morrissey chose to state that he doesn't think anyone would like to see them back together. US festival Coachella, for example, said that they would accomodate Morrissey's staunch vegetarian views and make their festival entirely meat-free if The Smiths agreed to perform.
There is little doubt that a reformed version of the Smiths would do incredible business if they did tour again. Still though, Morrissey is most likely correct in his view that at this point - nearly 30 years since they split - that the law of diminishing returns would apply. The Smiths are too good and too beloved to be viewed as a nostalgic heritage act - and Moz knows it.
