Just as Ringo Starr initially proved to be the most productive ex-Beatle, Michelle Williams has surprised the critics by making a quicker start to her solo career than her Destiny's Child bandmates. Quantity is no substitute for quality, however, and Williams is still seen as a minor talent beside the twin powerhouses of Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Rowland. Do You Know is unlikely to change that situation - it's a competent but completely unremarkable collection of generic R'n'B tracks that her lilting voice isn't strong enough to carry. Despite drafting in her sister Solange as co-writer and Beyonce as a backing vocalist, William's songs are bland, tasteless and about as sexy as a pint of semi-skimmed milk. Including a new Destiny's Child performance as the closing track does at least end things on a high note, but also emphasises the mediocrity of what has gone before. A Ringo-like career beckons.
