The Mercury Music Prize award ceremony is set to take place tonight in Covent Garden's Hospital Club, and will be broadcast live on BBC 2 from 10pm. We've got our fingers crossed for Villagers (who, incidentally have just announced an intimate "invitation only" gig at the Workman's Club for September 16th) but the Mod Father is now the bookie's favourite to win, having recently overtaken The XX.
Though we're still quietly disappointed that These New Puritans missed out on a nomination, there's still some top class music on the shortlist. If your life's too exciting for you to sit down and watch the event this evening you can check back here about 10.30pm tonight when we'll be letting you know who's bagged that £20,000 cheque. Below are some examples of what you'll find on each of the nominated albums.
