As is often the case with breaking news nowadays, social media microblogging website Twitter was where a lot of people found out about the passing yesterday morning of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, who died aged 87 after suffering a stroke.
Unsurprisingly, various hashtags began to crop up mentioning her death one of which was #nowthatchersdead.
Obviously intended to mean Now Thatcher's Dead, some mistook the hashtag as announcing the death of Cher - Now That Cher's Dead - and various tributes to the still-alive singer began to crop up online.
RIP CHER. Just saw the hashtag. Never was a fan myself but you've gotta respect her influence. #nowthatcherisdead

Reports of her death, it turns out, were very much exaggerated. Also, never trust someone who calls themselves 'Duke Slappington'.
