'Sister Act 2' is primarily remembered for bringing Lauryn Hill into the public consciousness, released just three years after 'The Score' launched Fugees into super-stardom.
Sure, it also had Whoopi Goldberg, Maggie Smith, 'Hocus Pocus' star Kathy Najimy, but what most people remember from 'Sister Act 2' is the closing musical number. Lauryn Hill brings the house down with her musical number, 'Joyful, Joyful' and features dancers and all sorts of stuff that aren't supposed to be in a gospel competition. It's classic '90s stuff, but sure enough, Lizzo brought it all back for her first awards performance.
Considering it was the MTV Movie & TV Awards last night, Lizzo decided to use the whole experience to give a deep-cut reference to that moment when she performed her song, 'Juice' - complete with the cutaway moment of the runner telling the dancers to take off their robes.
Here's the original moment, just for reference...
And here's Lizzo's performance from last night. That's a good, deep-cut reference. Solid effort.
We are still dancing to @Lizzo's performance!!! #MTVAwards pic.twitter.com/YsYosGqzSE
