We don't think many of you would have pegged Miley Cyrus as an Arctic Monkeys fan, so you can imagine our surprise at coming across this version of the former Hannah Montana belting out a version of the Sheffield band's 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' in a taping of Cyrus' MTV Unplugged.
The song, which was one of the singles from Arctic Monkeys' fifth record AM, could be seen as Cyrus attempting to embrace the risqué image which has followed suit since the release of her album Bangerz last year, further distancing herself from the squeaky clean Hannah Montana image which defined the early part of her career.
According to a report in The Hollywood Reporter, Miley also belted out a version of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'.
"I'm trying to bring Nashville here and get everyone in the country spirit tonight", Cyrus was quoted as saying.
The Unplugged recording session took place in Los Angeles, where Cyrus was also joined on stage by her mother Madonna* where they dueted on 'Don't Tell Me' and 'We Can't Stop'.
Below, for sake of comparison, is the Arctic Monkeys version of 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?'. Which do you prefer?
*Madonna is not actually Miley Cyrus' mother.
