The grand purple one, Prince, has debuted a new track - possibly from his forthcoming studio album - online late last night. Entitled 'The Breakdown', it sees Prince move away from the bubblegum pop he'd released earlier in the year and back to the power ballads he's ultimately more well-known for.

As well as this, Prince also announced that he's reconciled with his former label, Warner Bros., and has signed a new contract which will see a deluxe reissue of Purple Rain. It hasn't been announced yet what exactly the reissue will contain, but it comes on the 30th anniversary of the smash-hit album.

Prince went on to say that he hopes the relationship with Warner Bros. will be fruitful. Back in the early 90's, Prince had a major falling-out with the label over the direction of his music. It got so bad that Prince took to writing the word 'Slave' on his face whenever he appeared in public and even changed his name to the famous symbol so as to release himself from the contract.

Initial thoughts? This could be the best thing that ever happened to Prince. While he's been wildly creative down through the years, they haven't always been amazing. Plus, given that he has the full backing of a major label means his music will reach a wider audience.
