Sad news this morning: legendary blues musician BB KIng has died at the age of 89.

King, born Riley B. King in 1925 and often referred to as 'King of the Blues', had a long and varied career that began in the 1940s in his native Mississippi. He enjoyed mainstream success as well as becoming a cult figure of the genre, winning multiple Grammy awards and working with everyone from Bo Diddley to Eric Clapton to U2 over the years.

Earlier this month he was hospitalised for dehydration related to his Type II Diabetes, but was released from hospital and had been receiving hospice care since. His lawyer confirmed that he died peacefully at his home in Las Vegas yesterday at 9.40pm PST (May 14th).
