Between 48 hour marriages, shaving her head, lesbian threesomes in hot tubs on tour and generally falling off her rocker, Britney Spears hasn't been doing too much inspiring of late. So needless to say we were quite surprised when we heard that Lana Del Ray, possibly the coolest female singer on the go right now was inspired by Britney's music. Well, at least it's just her music that inspires her and not Spears' appetite for dribbling calorific Frappucinos down her chin.
As per Digital Spy, the sultry singer admitted that while she wasn't really interested in most female artists, she has always been a fan of the 'Toxic' star. Speaking with Rick Astley on Magic 105.4 the girl of the moment with pin- up looks said: "I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me – the way she sings and just the way she looks." The way she looks? Really?
In the same breath, Del Ray proclaimed that singing is not the key to her general sense of happiness as she has realised that there are more important things in life.
"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing. Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important."
Poor Lana's been a bit blue of late given the recent backlash against her album with many critics accusing her music as being dull, boring and 'manufactured'. Del Ray took to twitter to thank her fans for their support: "Thank you for making the record #1 in 11 countries. Your sweet words have softened the effect of even the harshest reviews. I adore you."
Somehow, when the word 'manufactured' comes into play, you probably ought to avoid aligning yourself with the fallen pop princess of the early 2000's. Just saying.
