By now Kristin Hersh, ex-singer of indie stars Throwing Muses, has made more than enough great albums to be regarded as an artist in her own right. It's hard to forget about her old band, however, when most of her lyrics seem to be about the bitterness of their break-up. Sunny Border Blue is a remarkable record, the sound of pure rage evoked through fierce acoustic guitars and scattergun, half-coherent vocals. If only all navel-gazing music was as inspired as this.
