Katie Melua's debut album Call Off the Search was one of last year's most unexpected hits. The Georgia girl who was brought up in Belfast may not be the flashiest performer around, but her gently whimsical songs struck a massive hit with the record-buying public. Few of them will be disappointed by this equally dreamy follow-up, which sticks closely to the tried and tested formula - a few jazz-blues covers, some love songs written by her partner Mike Batt and four slightly more quirky compositions by Melua herself. There's a sense throughout of an artist playing it safe, and at times you're reminded of the old Dorothy Parker gibe that she can run the gamut of emotions from A to B. But for the moments when you're not in the mood for anything challenging, just pleasant adult listening, this will do the job nicely.
