When TIDAL first re-launched under Jay-Z's ownership, a very big deal was made of the fact that he had some of the biggest music stars on the planet on board for his streaming service.
Now, however, it appears that he's lost at least one of them as Kanye West has reportedly quit TIDAL following a dispute over money.
TMZ report that West was disgruntled after he claimed he was owed over $3 million and his lawyers sent a letter a month ago stating that TIDAL was in breach of their contract - but after no resolution was found, West's lawyer reportedly told the company two weeks ago that their contract was done.
Part of the issue is reportedly down to the fact that West was promised a bonus for bringing 1.5 million subscribers on board the service when he released his album 'The Life of Pablo' exclusively though TIDAL - but that it never materialised. Now, TIDAL is reportedly threatening to sue West if he tries to go to another streaming service.
It certainly seems that the friendship between Yeezy and Jay-Z has deteriorated, if a song from the latter's new album '4:44' is anything to go by; one verse says "I know people backstab you, I feel bad too / But this f*** everybody attitude ain’t natural / But you ain’t the same, this ain’t KumbaYe / But you got hurt because you did cool by ‘Ye / You gave him 20 million without thinkin’ / He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f*** was he thinkin’? / ‘F*** wrong with everybody?’ is what you sayin’ / But if everybody’s crazy, you’re the one that’s insane."
It doesn't look like we'll be seeing another collaborative 'Watch the Throne' album, anytime soon, that's for sure.
