She is without a doubt, a living legend - but it's not often that Joni Mitchell performs publicly.
However, that all changed at the weekend when the 78-year-old musician joined country star Brandi Carlile at the Newport Folk Festival.
The Canadian legend sang several of her most famous songs - including 'Both Sides Now', 'Big Yellow Taxi', 'A Case of You' and 'The Circle Game' - as well as played guitar on 'Just Like This Train'.
It was a rare outing for Mitchell, although she did appear at MusiCares’ 2022 Person of the Year gala earlier this year to perform two songs - backed by an all-star band that included Brandi Carlile, Beck, Stephen Stills and Cyndi Lauper.
The emotional footage brought many to tears - including Carlile and country star Wynonna Judd, who was seated behind Mitchell.
Marcus Mumford was also on stage during the performance, and joined in on 'A Case of You'.

Meanwhile, another legend also made a surprise appearance at the Newport Folk Festival over the weekend. Paul Simon shocked the crowd by turning up to play during a tribute set dedicated to his music, that was hosted by Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats.
Simon retired from music in 2018, which made his attendance all the more surprising.
