The Billboard Music Awards took place at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles without a live audience.
However, in between the handing-out of the gongs (of which Post Malone took nine), there were a number of live performances by the likes of Sia, BTS and Alicia Keys.
One performance in particular stood out because of its emotional context - with John Legend dedicating his song 'Never Break' to his wife Chrissy Teigen.
Teigen, as you may know, sadly suffered a miscarriage and was praised for her openness about going through such a heartbreaking experience. "We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we've never felt before," she said in an Instagram post. "On this darkest of days, we will grieve, we will cry our eyes out. But we will hug and love each other harder and get through it."
The lyrics of 'Never Break', which was written in 2019 but take on a new meaning given their recent experience, include " "We will never break, we will never break / Built on a foundation, stronger than the pain / We will never break, as the water rises and the mountains shake / Our love will remain."
