Memphis garage rocker Jay Reatard has died at the age of 29. The musician died in his sleep and was found in his bed at 3.30am on Tuesday night (January 13th).
Reatard has previously been complaining of illness, and tweeted on January 9th "If I don't get well soon I'm gonna eat myself into pig champion/tad territory"
Matador records posted the following:
"We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly."
No official explanation has been offered for Jay's untimely death, and spokesperson Jennifer Robinson admitted that the Memphis police have opened a death investigation.
