Well, who would have seen this coming ten years ago?

Much has been written and many hands have been wrung about the decline of the physical music product, but sccording to the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), vinyl brought in more money than ad-supported streaming services last year.

They report that vinyl sales increased by a whopping 52% on the previous year, bringing in $222 million in America - while streaming services generated $60 million less.

Of course, that's not to say that streaming doesn't continue to be a growing industry. While digital sales/downloads have declined, streaming continues to grow and revenue was up 27% on the previous year. That's also without taking into account the continuing growth of Spotify and the impact that relatively new streaming services such as Apple Music and Tidal have yet to have on the industry.

In addition, it seems that plenty of people still buy CDs, which accounts for two-thirds of the market, according to Digiday.
