Bipolar Sunshine is the pseudonym of Mancunian musician Adio Marchant - who was once the co-vocalist of ska/indie band Kid British.

Since that band's split in 2012, Marchant has been steadily developing his own solo pop sound and has released several singles, with an album on the way later this year.

Entertainment.ie recently had a quick catch-up with Adio to get the lowdown on his Bipolar Sunshine project ahead of his Dublin debut.

That takes place in Whelan's this Thursday, March 26th - and if you're quick enough, you'll be able to nab a ticket from the usual outlets.

Hi Adio - after Kid British split, had you always intended to continue making music?

Yeah that was the goal. I wasn't gonna let one failure stop me.

Why release under a pseudonym, rather than your own name?

At the time it felt right. Maybe i didn't like myself enough to use my own name.

What sort of stuff did you listen to growing up – was anyone else in your family musical?

My dad played the drums. We listened to a lot of lovers' rock and Carpenters when i was growing up.

You've spoken before of your love of The Smiths. Growing up in Manchester, was it inevitable that bands like that are part of your musical DNA?

Yes and no, as I only got on to them when i went to uni - but Manchester music is always something you couldn't hide from in the city.

Who were your (other) biggest inspirations growing up – musical or otherwise?

My mum, as I have seen her go through a lot of stuff and she still continues to shine.

Bless. After leaving the band in 2012, did you find that the songs that you were writing were taking a more personal slant?

Yeah, for sure - I had lived more, so I had more to talk about.

You've been shunted into the same scene as acts like The xx and London Grammar – how do you feel about those comparisons before you've even released an album?

I love both sets of artists and that to me is big compliment... are they fair? I feel they are, as it shows that people are seeing that I'm not following trends. I'm just being me.

You've released a number of EPs to date – is an album on the cards?

Soon. This year, for sure.

What was your favourite album of last year?

PartyNextDoor - PNDCOLOURS.

Favourite film?

Interstellar.

Are you influenced by other non-musical art forms in any way?

Yeah, movies. Documentaries are big ones for me; I love wildlife programmes..

What do you feel has been your biggest achievement to date?

Playing Glasto. So many people came out to see us - it was amazing!

Recommend an album to us – either old or new.

Kendrick Lamar - To Pimp A Butterfly.

What can your Dublin fans expect from your gig?

Full energy, and me sharing my soul with everyone in the room.
