Once upon a time Iggy Pop was the archetypal punk rebel. Nowadays, however, he seems to have turned into the aging court jester of the music establishment. Still, while his best days are clearly behind him, Iggy's new album does at least show that his passion and sense of humour are still intact. Against the backdrop of a tight heavy metal band, the former Stooge screams his way through a succession of diatribes against mainstream society, paradoxically sounding more at ease than he has for some time. It's one-dimensional stuff and it goes on far too long, but as an attempt to keep the old flame burning Beat Em'Up is a worthy effort.
