She may be best known as a singer of woozy, deliciously weird pop songs - but Lana Del Rey is venturing into poetry and spoken word.
The LA singer announced her 'gritty' spoken word album 'Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass' several months ago, which has yet to be released. However, she will also release a book of poetry called 'behind the iron gates - insights from an institution' and has unveiled the first poem from it in an Instagram post.

Some of her fellow celebs have clearly been enjoying it, with Fearne Cotton calling it "a melodic meditation for the soul" and Courtney Love also tweeting her support.
Del Rey has had a rocky week on social media. In the process of her announcing that her new album will be released in September, she became embroiled in controversy when her Instagram post was deemed 'racist' by some.
