Was the one-time boyband heartthrob about to announce a new film role, new music, or had he just sat on his phone?
It turns out that Styles was preparing for the release of the first track from his forthcoming second album, which he discussed in tongue-biting detail in a recent Rolling Stone interview.
It's called 'Lights Up' and follows hot on the heels of his one-time bandmate Niall Horan's new solo single, which was released last week.
The video premiered just four hours ago on YouTube, and it has already been watched over 1.25 million times. There are few artists who could command that kind of audience.
