James Corden's 'Carpool Karaoke' has proven such a huge hit that it was really only a matter of time before it was expanded in some way.
As it happens, the 'Late Night with James Corden' segment has been snapped up by Apple Music, who will run it as a 30-minute-long standalone series on their streaming service.
Although it will still run on Corden's show, the Apple Music format will change slightly - meaning that the expanded version will be more interview-based to lengthen the running time, as well as the inevitable singalongs that will occur. There will also be no regular host for the series, with different musicians or other well-known celebrity names paired together for a chat. The reason, according to producer Ben Winston, is that so many non-musical celebs wanted to get in on the act. "We wouldn’t do Will Smith on [‘Late Late Show’],” he said. “So many people have been getting in touch with us, big movie stars, and we’re like, ‘that’s not really for us,’ but here with Apple Music it’s perfect."
One of the forthcoming episodes will see comedian/TV host Billy Eichner interviewing Metallica, which explains what the metal band were doing singing 'Enter Sandman' in a grocery store in Hollywood recently. Other pairings for the 16-part series include John Legend with Alicia Keys and Seth MacFarlane with Ariana Grande.
There's no release date as yet, but watch this space.
