The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Jefferson Airplane guitarist, vocalist and founding member Paul Katner has passed away aged 74.

According to the report, Katner "had suffered a heart attack this week. His death was confirmed by longtime publicist and friend, Cynthia Bowman, who said he died of multiple organ failure and septic shock. Mr. Kantner had a string of health problems in recent years, including a heart attack in March."

Marty Balin and Katner formed the band in 1965. They released seven albums in total, played Woodstock, and penned "counterculture" hits including 'White Rabbit' and 'Somebody to Love.' According to Pitchfork: They broke up in 1973, following the release of 1972's 'Long John Silver'."

Katner joins the increasing line of music legends who've departed the planet this January 2016.
