It's the newest addition to the Irish summer festival calendar, and it kicks off this weekend in Co. Wicklow - here's everything you need to know about Beyond the Pale.
From day-by-day breakdown to how to get there, who's playing and how much booze you're allowed to bring, we've got you covered.
WHERE IS IT TAKING PLACE?
Beyond the Pale is a brand new arts and music festival taking place at the Glendalough Estate, Co. Wicklow this weekend (June 10th - 12th). It’s an over-21s festival, FYI.
WHO’S PLAYING?
Acts on the line-up this year include FourTet, Bonobo, Orbital, James Vincent McMorrow, Lisa Hannigan, Ben UFO, Romare (live), John Talabot, Shygirl, Stereo MCs, Chloe Robinson and many more.
The arts programme includes “performance legends, artist residencies, utopian dream spaces, new work commissions, and a whole load of outrageous, bawdy, foot-stamping, jaw-dropping, honest-to-jaysus fun.”
There’s a wellness programme, too, that includes yoga, reggae yoga, a matcha tea ceremony, sound baths, meditation and more.
CAN I STILL BUY TICKETS?
Yes, tickets are still on sale (at time of writing) - they include Weekend Camping tickets (€249 plus fees) and Sunday-only tickets (€95 plus fees, which includes camping for Sunday Night). Headliners on Sunday are Orbital. Child weekend tickets (age 3 - 12 years) are €79 plus fees.
WHAT'S THE WEATHER GOING TO BE LIKE?
According to Yr.no, Friday is looking cloudy but warm, with average temps of 18 degrees. Saturday and Sunday will be very similar although slightly cooler, with a little sunshine expected for Sunday.
Bear in mind that this is Ireland and the weather can change very quickly - so come prepared!
OPENING TIMES
The festival site opens at 12pm on Friday, with music starting in the main arena at 4pm. The campsite will close at 12pm on Monday 13th.
BOOZE POLICY
Festival-goers can bring one case (24 cans) of beer OR 2 bottles of wine OR one litre of spirits. Glass bottles and mirrors are not allowed. Bags will be checked at the gate. There will be bars on-site (featuring the wares of independent Irish craft brewers and cocktail-makers), but they will be card-only.
WHAT ABOUT FOOD?
Yes, don't worry - you won't go hungry. In fact, there a special 'Beyond the Plate' culinary experience being created especially for the festival by food writer Ali Dunworth. There'll be talks, demos and workshops across the weekend, as well as food by some of Ireland's best street food vendors.
HOW DO I GET THERE?
Driving? Search for ‘Glendalough House’ on Google Maps. The nearest villages are Roundwood and Annamoe. Car parking is available a 10 minute walk from the campsite. The cost is €20 per vehicle and this can be paid upon arrival.
There will be a bus running from Custom House Quay in Dublin city centre, by Marathon Coaches (tickets here). Buses depart at 10.30am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm and 6pm on Friday. If you have a Sunday-only ticket, a bus departs Custom House Quay at 12pm on Sunday. Return buses depart Glendalough House at Sunday night (11pm) and Monday afternoon (12pm).
