Today marks a year since the death of Prince, yet despite his absence from the music scene over the last 12 months, he is still making his presence felt when it comes to sales.
In fact, Prince was the biggest-selling artist in the US in 2016 according to Nielsen Music, who report that his back catalogue of music and songs combined for a whopping 7.7 million sales up until the week ending April 13th.
Of that figure, 2.3 million were in traditional album sales, and 5.4 million were from digital song downloads and the bulk came in the month after his death, with 5.65 million sales between April 21st and May 19th.
Indeed, the Purple One outsold even Adele last year, selling 2.23 million albums to her 2.21 million, with his most popular title being The Very Best Of Prince.
His first anniversary is being celebrated around the world today and this weekend, including in Dublin - where A Celebration of Prince takes place at the Grand Social tonight.
