Yeah, yeah - we said that we wouldn't be doing the usual Top 10s or Top 5 countdowns in our end-of-year round-up, but music videos have a special place in our heart - so here are what we reckon are the best five music videos of 2014.

1. OK GO - 'I WON'T LET YOU DOWN'

OK Go are a band with a reputation for awesome videos, and their new single is no exception. It's not quite as jaw-dropping as that one for 'Here It Goes Again' back in 2007, but there is still some brilliant choreography involved.

2. JUNGLE - 'BUSY EARNIN''

We loved this English band's low-key debut album, packed with moody soul grooves and slo-mo funk, but the video for their single 'Busy Earnin' is just amazing and suits the tone of the song brilliantly. It's so simple – just a bunch of people dancing in an empty warehouse – but so effective.

3. SIA - 'CHANDELIER'

The jaw-dropping dance moves (can you spot a theme in this list?!) of Maddie Ziegler were what set this video apart from so many others in 2014 – probably why it has 401 million YouTube views (gulp) and counting since May. It was beautifully shot, too – the bleakness of the background apartment are brought alive by the sheer artistry of Ziegler's astonishing ballet/contemporary dance style.

4. SQUAREHEAD - '2025'

A video that has no dance moves (sorry) but is nonetheless brilliant, 2025 – by ace Irish band Squarehead - features actors Domhnall and Briain Gleeson refusing to grow up. Shaky camcorder footage from their 1980s childhoods are interspersed with a really funny modern-day narrative. If you don't smile all the way through this, you are dead inside. Plus it's for Immaturity for Charity, so y'know, good deeds and all that stuff.

5. ST. VINCENT - 'DIGITAL WITNESS'

We're a bit in love with Annie Clark aka St. Vincent to start with – her album is one of our favourites of the year – but this quirky, colourful video looks absolutely incredible. If straight lines, twins and uniformity freaks you out, though, best avoid it.
