Yesterday, Ed Sheeran revealed further details of his third album 'Divide' - most notably, the tracklisting.
His Irish fans got extremely excited, however, about the fact that there was a song called 'Galway Girl' on the album:

It led to a lot of confusion and speculation about whether the song was a cover of Steve Earle's original hit, later covered in recent years by Mundy and Sharon Shannon:
Please let Ed Sheeran's song Galway girl be a cover of the actual song called Galway girl.

Is Ed Sheeran covering "Galway Girl" on his new album? The very thought of how inescapable that'd be gives me an immediate anxiety attack. https://t.co/aIF7FopzZN

If Ed Sheeran's new album actually includes a cover of Galway Girl, I might actually die and go to heaven

I'm severely doubting that @edsheeran's Galway Girl is a cover..

However, this appears to be as unlikely as it sounds - as the Irish Sun report, trad band Beoga feature on two of the 'Irish' tracks on the album - one of which is about Galway, and the other about Wexford, where his granny lives.
Besides, why on earth would he put a cover of another artist's song on his album and line their pockets?! Sorry, Steve Earle... not this time. Mundy... you're safe. For now.
