Dr John has become a bit of a legend in his own lifetime, having clocked up a formidable legacy of New Orleans blues albums fused with his own unique 'voodoo' keyboard style. For some time, however, it's been clear that the charismatic grouch has been trading on past glories rather than really stretching himself - an impression that his latest album does little to challenge. That said, Creole Moon has plenty to recommend it: a dense mix of funky grooves and jazz inflections that sticks fairly closely to the traditional blues-rock formula. It's undemanding, enjoyable stuff, even if devotees will know that the good Doctor can do - and has done - a lot better.
