If you stayed up late last night - or set your alarm early this morning - you may already have heard Dr. Dre's brand new album 'Compton', which was streaming exclusively on Apple Music from 2am - 5am GMT.

The album is out today, and the rapper has announced that all of the royalties earned from it will be donated to a charity fund for a new performance arts and entertainment centre in Compton, the area of Los Angeles that he and his fellow NWA members hail from.

The news was announced on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 radio show last night.

"I feel it's the right thing to do and I hope everybody appreciates the work I put into this album," said Dre, mentioning that he had been in town with the Mayor of Compton, Aja Brown, to discuss the project. "I've been really trying to do something special for Compton and just couldn't quite figure out what it was. [Brown] actually had this idea and she was already in the process of working on it. I said, 'Boom, this is what we should do.'"

'Compton' is out now, but you'll only hear it on Apple Music - at least for the time being.
