It's no exaggeration to say that the reclusive Parisian duo Daft Punk revolutionised dance music with their 1997 debut Homework. This belated follow-up sets itself an equally ambitious task: making the sound of the 80s fashionable again. Much of this disjointed and confusing record consists of samples of old disco records from that critically reviled era, juxtaposed with harsh techno beats and robotic, distorted vocals. One dance music magazine has already proclaimed this 'the greatest album ever' but even Daft Punk's keenest fans should tone down their expectations a little. Discovery is never less than interesting but unfortunately it's often not much more than that either.
